CallKeep Connector: privacy

The CallKeep Connector is a Chrome extension a repair shop installs on its own computer. It connects the shop's CallKeep account to the shop's Tekmetric account. This page says exactly what it handles and where that goes.

What the Connector reads

• Appointments on the shop's Tekmetric calendar: each appointment's id, start and end time, title and status. It reads them from the calendar pages the shop already has open, and, when nothing has been seen for a while, by asking Tekmetric for the calendar the same way the page does.
• Nothing else on the page. It does not read repair orders, invoices, payments, messages or anything outside the calendar.

What the Connector writes

• Appointments the shop's CallKeep assistant booked: the customer's name and phone number, the vehicle they described, the time, and a note that says it was booked through CallKeep. It creates, moves or cancels those appointments in Tekmetric.

Where data goes

• Calendar appointments it reads are sent to CallKeep (callkeep.ai) and kept in the shop's own CallKeep account, so the assistant does not offer a time that is already taken. They are deleted when the shop disconnects the Connector.
• Bookings it writes go to the shop's own Tekmetric account.
• It talks to two hosts only: shop.tekmetric.com and callkeep.ai. Nothing is sent anywhere else. Nothing is sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising.
• While CallKeep is still setting up the link for your shop, the Connector notes the shape of the calls the Tekmetric app makes on your computer: which addresses, which field names, which kinds of values. Never the values themselves: names, numbers and notes are replaced by their length before anything is sent, and phone numbers and email addresses are removed again on arrival. This is how the link gets finished without you having to do anything.
• If a Tekmetric response does not look the way the Connector expects, it sends CallKeep a short sample of that response with phone numbers and email addresses removed, so the problem can be fixed.

What it never handles

• The shop's Tekmetric password. The Connector uses the login already in the browser and never sees, stores or sends a password. It keeps the session headers Tekmetric's own pages send, in the browser's session storage on your computer, so its calls to Tekmetric are the same as the app's; they are never sent to CallKeep and are gone when Chrome closes.
• When it is installed or removed, it opens a page on callkeep.ai that says what to do next; nothing about you or the shop is sent with it. Your CallKeep dashboard, and only that site, can ask the Connector whether it is installed and hand it a pairing code, which is how one press pairs a computer.
• Browsing history, other websites, or anything typed into other sites. It opens one pinned Tekmetric tab and keeps it from being put to sleep, and it asks Chrome to keep running in the background after its last window closes, so bookings keep landing; it does nothing in that tab except read the calendar and write bookings.

What it stores on the computer

A pairing token that identifies the shop's CallKeep account, the current set of instructions for talking to Tekmetric, the shop's time zone, and a short activity log. Pressing Unpair in the Connector, or Disconnect in CallKeep, ends the pairing; removing the extension deletes all of it.
